HELP!! I'm finding waaaayy too much satisfaction in my "sick" day today. Yes, I'm under the weather but so far I have done 3 loads of laundry, vacuumed and mopped, watched Ellen and I'm about to start the slow cooker for dinner. Ok, its not that much but still...I am so much more productive!! I've just had this wonderful surge of creativity; how to decorate, what to make, things to cook, places to take Kylie...and THIS WEATHER! OH LORD..could it be any NICER?!?!?! On days like this it absolutely KILLS me that I don't stay at home. And then I think...off all my wants and these mental lists I make of things to buy or places I want us to go...and they all take money. Money. Simply the most imperative yet lacking thing if I did not work. Sure we could make it, but I would become all but a single mom. I'd be committing my husband to OT upon OT so that *I* could enjoy the good life with our daughter. Yes, I know its not fair, and I would not put that upon him. We will work together to provide.
So for now, I push that mom back inside, deep inside my [sub]conscious, where she will live until I'm ready to set her free.

The suburban life of a suburban wife
This suburban wife celebrated her 2nd wedding anniversary this past weekend by taking a trip with the hubby to New Orleans! It was quick trip east to see some music (Alkaline Trio) and eat our way through the French Quarter. We arrived Thursday night and pretty much went straight to the restaurant then House of Blues. We rocked out then walked back to the hotel and slept. Bonus: we got an upgraded room so we slept in our suite with the biggest bathtub I have ever seen. Even though the thought of using the jets gave me germaphobe shivers, yes, I took a dip, an yes, it was nice!
Friday, true to a parent's schedule we woke up obscenely early and were out the door in search of beignets before 9 am. We arrived at Cafe Dumonde like 3 miles later (Google maps, you failed me!!) The line was crazy and getting a table would be similar to wrestling steak from hungry lions. We opted for to go and found a bench to sit one while we covered our laps in powdered sugar. Ehhh, once you have had a funnel cake you've had a beignet...sadly it was nothing to rave about. We kept on walking on to Port of Call where we were told had the best burger in the city. The burger was good but the Neptune's Monsoon was better! Basically a Mai tai in a plastic cup, it set the tone for the rest of the day. I wish I had one now...mmmm....so tasty. After that the day was blown, we stumbles around for the next 4 hours looking for Pat O'brien's. Good times! Saturday we booked it home so we could get to our baby girl. She had a great time with Grandma and Gramps and when she saw us she wasn't exactly sure how to react, it was funny. The rest of the weekend I enjoyed my family and this great life I have. Driving back I was thinking of how lucky I am. Lucky to have met my husband who goes above and beyond for me and Kylie. Lucky to have my parents and sister who love and WANT to be a part of Kylie's life. I have a home, and a car and I don't have much stress (except for the stress I put on myself - which is another post all together). The weather was beautiful that day and the sun shining put a glittering effect on all my thoughts...all I could think was life, my life, was good! I have everything I've ever wanted.

Dear Family Member
Dear Family Member,
I wish you would clear the haze that you are living in. I can't even believe you are the same person I have known all my life. You are far away and unreachable by choice, but lost as a result. We want to help, we want you back.
You used to shine and dazzle, but you've lost the luster that a clean life brings. You've been through some stuff, I know, but it has not been enough to turn you around, and that is scary to me - but obviously not to you. When I see you, my heart hurts because you keep traveling down the wrong road with no desire to look back. I feel guilty for the shame I feel for you when you have scraped yourself together and shown up. Head down, eye contact avoided, I want to help but you seem blissfully unwilling. The sad part is those people will not always be there. The welcomes will wear out and the substances will loose their effectiveness. People will outgrow you and your choices will leave you even more alienated than you are now. You don't have to do it our way. You don't have to move back here but you absolutely must get your head together.
We will always be here...but time is passing you by and everyday a door closes. You have to find your balance, you have to make your way!

I'm craving a post!!
I'm short on time and without a computer at home for the moment but I've had a serious hankering to post post post! Here is a little bit for now:
what I'm wishing: the phone would ring from an awesome new dream job
what I'm saving for: it should be my vacation next weekend but my goal is new area rug for living room and a major overhaul of the front yard landscaping
what I'm bitter about: not having enough time for anything. Either I am spreading myself too thin or I am a horrible time manager (or both!)
what I'm researching: alztheimers
who I'm mystified by: several people, including my boss, someone who I talked to for a reference yesterday, and an uncle
why I'm tired: too many good shows on and I stay up a little too late to watch them all
who my heart belongs to: uh, duh....
what iphone app I'm hooked on: Words with Friends - look me up people, I'm Allilou24
what I'm craving: surf and turf!!

USP(O)S
My experience with the U.S. Postal Service has been less that stellar. Just like Murphy's law states, it if can go wrong it will - but especially when it comes to the mail. It is my advice that if you are counting on something to be delivered within a specific time period that you use another service other than the USPS. I know carrier pigeon services who have better track records than the government agency. And you have a better chance of winning the lottery than you do getting someone at the post office to answer the phone when you call to complain.
When we moved back out to CL from in-town, we did not get our mail for almost 3 weeks. I had the mail forwarded a week before we actually moved and changed the addresses as fast as I could manage a phone AND a newborn baby. Would you believe that about 2 weeks into our stay at the new house a random girl who lived at our old apartments sent me a facebook message to tell me that she had retrieved a large stack of our mail from the apartment mailroom trash can??! This good samaritan seeked me out to finish the job that the postal worker was too lazy to do.
Admittedly, I am not an expert on mailing address forwards, but I'm pretty sure that I did my part considering my mail eventually arrived with that little yellow forwarding sticker over the old address; so why can't the government worker who is paid to deliver the mail do their's?? The mail clerk at my job (who is paid far less than an actual mail person) has 100% more pride in his work and is 100 times more reliable. Does anyone else see a problem with this?
I heard the news reporting that the USPS is proposing to congress that they completely cut out mail delivery on weekends. My feelings are mixed on this one. On one hand, sure, go ahead- its one less day for my stuff to get lost in transit. On the other hand, its no wonder that the sales in stamps and postal services are tanking - they suck! They are so inefficient, they need to be delivering mail 7 days a week to make up for it! Snail mail? No joke! On top of all this, they are going to charge me almost $.50 for a stamp to provide a service you are not even sure you will get?? I understand that email and online catalogs are replacing the paper versions, and why shouldn't they? At least they are reliable, not to mention green.
What could have possibly prompted this you ask? There are very few "fun" things I am able to find the time to me to do in a normal week. So when Friday comes, I get home with the expectation that my US Weekly will be in my mailbox waiting for me and that + a glass of wine will be the perfect way to end my week and start my weekend. For the last 4 weeks, I haven't had that. I was starting to think my mail carrier was punishing me for something. Thanks to Google, I found the well hidden phone number to US Weekly's Subscription Services and called to find out what the problem was. My subscription had been deemed "undeliverable" (even though I had updated the mailing address AND requested a mail forward). Lucky for the postal service this could not be fully blamed on them. I got an eye on you postal service, I'm watching your every move. I don't think in this day and age, a business should stay afloat if it cannot back its products and provide a service that is dependable. Some people may say that this is typical of government agencies, and sadly, its what we have come to expect from them. Taking this one step further, if the government cannot guarantee the delivery of a letter going from Sacramento to Miami, what makes the government think that it can provide well managed health care for the entire country??
Just sayin...

possibilities
The title of this reminds me of my absolute favorite song off the New Moon sound track....ahhh. It stands for more than just the song, though. There some possibilities right now, and thinking of them sorta makes my head spin. Let's begin with my always accurate <--- imagine that in sarcasm font-- horoscope for the day:
Your horoscope for March 5, 2010
Keep your eyes and ears open today, Allison as you may receive some important information on some specific ways you can increase your income. This is just one of the many wonderful things that are bound to happen to you today. You are looking great and people are responding to your warm and pleasant manner. Bask in the glow of all the goodwill that surrounds you. Alas, it will not last forever.
If the planets have finally aligned like I've been waiting for, that would be fabulous, but what is more plausible is that the writers of my daily horoscope know that we JUST got our income tax return today and we both get paid today therefore we are momentarily wealthy(er). That money has plans, we are paying off my little 'yota and of course we gotta feed Kylie's college fund in case she gets into Harvard or Pepperdine like we anticipate.
The other possibilities are that of career possibilities for my hubby. I recall being sworn to secrecy on this front, so I'm sure I've said too much already but its something on the horizon I'm keeping in the back my my mind. (Yes, I know I was really vague just then!) Oh, and career possibilities for me?? Well, that would just be too f-ing lucky for me, now wouldn't it??
I dropped Kylie off Monday as usual but what wasn't usual was that she reached out for her teacher before I was ready to hand her off. I have always expected this to happen, and I should be glad that she does like her teachers so much, but it still killed me a little inside. They call her Smiley Kylie at school, which I love, so I know she is a good girl for them, but as always it reignites my internal debate about whether or not my destiny is to be a stay at home mom. Sigh...
On a completely separate note, the last place that was still selling individual Sugar Free Red Bulls for $1.99, (or $2.15 with tax) has finally increased their price. Since I was like 18 years old, they cost 8 quarters, a dime and a nickel. Easy pocket or couch change for a good pick me up. Now, the cheapest place I know is at HEB where they are $1.69. I love that HEB is being some competitive on their prices for us energy junkies, but I'll probably pay the extra $.33 for the convenience factor.
I feel the need to comment on my inactivity as of late. I guess I've not been feeling the "share your feelings" vibe for a while, but after some nice feed back from a few readers, my interest was revived! Thank you, as always, for being interested in me and what I have to say. Its such a lovely feeling :)
